The Small Quilts at QuiltCon really pack a punch despite their small size. One of the stated characteristics of a modern quilt on the MQG website is that they are primarily functional quilts, so I'm not quite sure how these fit into that. The way I see it, more and more quilts with modern sensibilities are smaller and often intended to be on the wall. Actually, I think a wall quilt serves a function just as much as one on the bed, but that's a topic for another day.
There was certainly a lot of variety in this category. I've shown just a sampling here. You can see above what the space looked like. It was really nice, although throughout the day the light would change and sometimes make for difficult photography. This hall made it seem more like a gallery than a typical convention center space. At first I thought that all the small quilts were in the section you see above, the first set of curtains on the left. I didn't find out until later that they continued on the other side of the hall.

I was lucky enough to run into Tracy when I I was hanging out here one day. I met Tracy at the Slow Stitching retreat last summer in Maine. This is the small stitching piece she started in our class with Chawne Kimber. It really came out great!

Next time I will show you Gwen's exhibit. It was wonderful to see these quilts in this setting even though I've seen them all in person before.
