Ryan's birthday was a beautiful Oregon day in apple (and pear) country. We camped right in the Hood River Valley, just a couple of miles from our favorite orchard. The apple picking was great fun and we came back with a huge box of goodies.
Free samples were allowed while we picked. It was nice to taste before picking!
We got Akane, Golden Supreme and Sansa. If all goes according to plan, I will be canning applesauce this weekend! There will be many more varieties later in the season. Sometimes I wish we lived in apple country so we could pick every week, but at least I got my fix for the year.
Later in the day we celebrated with birthday cake and presents. What a lovely start to fall!
