Graduation 2015 :: Wings to Fly

Graduation weekend was great!  It all started on Saturday with an award ceremony for all the graduates being recognized by their departments.  Chloe got the Outstanding Student Research award for the Psychology Department!  It came with a cash award and her name was added to a plaque that will hang in the Psychology Department for posterity.

My parents were able to join us for the weekend.  We are all proud of Chloe's accomplishments and happy that we could be there to celebrate.

Sunday morning dawned bright and sunny and quickly got very hot!  Everyone was really broiling in the sun.

Chloe wasn't sure until the last minute that she was going to graduate Summa Cum Laude.  The college changed the way they divide the top tiers of honor this year.  She was so happy to see that she had!

Her mortar board was decorated to show her love of Linfield College.  She made many lasting friendships with both students and professors and I'm sure she'll stay in touch with them for a long, long time.

Chloe and Caitlyn met the very first day as they were roommates for the first two years.  It's amazing to see how these two shy and uncertain freshman have blossomed over the past 4 years.

After a graduation dinner we came back to the RV park for champagne, cake and gifts.

And here's the graduation quilt:  Wings to Fly!  She really  likes it.  Although she chose the fabric, she didn't have any idea what the design would be.  I chose to make improv feathers and surround them with more improv.  I have no idea why people would make feathers with a pattern, but I'll have more to say about that soon!

I did a lot of quilting on this one and I only got a few photos before I washed it.  The quilting doesn't show up as well on a washed quilt, but I wanted it to be super cozy right off the bat.  I haven't done this before, but on this one I decided to quilt some words into the design, but unobtrusively.  It says, For Chloe, Love Mom, 2015.
