Happy New Year! I have been taking it slow since Christmas due to another bad cold, but on Instagram I’ve done a little tour of the quilts we have hanging in our new house. This is known as the quilt gallery, it’s a very long hallway that goes the length of the front of the house. Below you can see more views of the quilts that we have hanging at the moment.
At the end of the year (and now the end of a decade), I like to think back about the past year or 10 and see what I’ve accomplished. 2019 turned out to be a slow year for me creatively. I was sidelined by many things including illness, pet loss, travel, selling a house, and moving house. I managed to finish a few quilts, but so many fewer than the years prior to this one.
However, the decade has been amazing from a creative standpoint. This is the decade that I became a member of the Modern Quilt Guild and started entering quilt shows, with very positive results. I have had many quilts published in books and magazines in the past 10 years and I never would have expected that in 2009.
I have also taken my art into other realms, doing more sketching, painting and even weaving. I love trying new things and so that part has been really good. My Etsy shops have been more productive every year this decade and I have re-opened my Big Cartel shop just for quilts.
I don’t know exactly what the new decade has in store for me, but I believe 2020 will be much more creatively productive than 2019. In a few weeks I think I’ll have the studio in order and will have time to get back to work. I have plans for new quilts for the coming year, new stitching patterns to work on, and some new painting ideas. I’ll be experimenting with acrylic gouache and smaller works than I’ve done in the past.
