This piece was made for the SAQA Benefit Auction fundraiser. The auctions start on September 18, 2015. Lately, I have been making a lot of small textile art pieces with the same technique. First I machine piece a background, then applique the main shapes. Then I back the piece with some harem cloth. I hand baste the piece to the harem cloth which adds some body so that the embroidery is easy to do. While I'm doing the hand embroidery I add some hand stitched running stitches . Then I layer and machine quilt the piece right over or around the embroidery. See below for some in progress photos.
