New Patterns: October Trio Halloween Decorations

October Trio: Boo, Witchy Raven, and Pumpkin Time

October Trio: Boo, Witchy Raven, and Pumpkin Time

Better late than never! I have finally finished patterns for my new October Trio. These three ornament patterns are available all together or singly, and as PDFs or printed versions. I had such fun making them! They use a variety of threads from DMC, Valdani, Gentle Arts Sampler Threads and Weeks Dye Works. My favorite find has been Gentle Arts Sampler Threads Black Crow, which may be the perfect black. It has subtle overtones of navy and just looks so rich. It’s well named because it’s perfect for these crows and raven.

I originally intended to make these single ornaments, but the other day I got the idea to add the buttons on the back which allows them to be hooked together in a long hanging decoration that measures about 4” x 18”. The buttons also allow you to rearrange as you like. You can also leave the buttons off and make them into individual ornaments.

Well, that’s probably it for a while, back to packing!

Hello Friends!

Sorry for being so absent these last couple of months. It’s been a challenge to get much done in the studio while also keeping the house clean for multiple showings over the summer and getting Ryan to all his activities. Good news is that our house has sold and we are renters again. Bad news is that we are in the midst of packing and getting ready to move to our new house, which is exciting, but also time consuming and stressful. It will be a real push to get the new house finished in time to move in at the end of the month.

In the meantime I have been working on a bunch of stitchery samples for new patterns I will be releasing. The first of these is this new Kitty Brooch pattern. I think they are super cute and it’s hard to stop at one. Luckily, the pattern includes colorways for the four shown above which I think of as seasonal kitties: spring, summer, Halloween and Christmas. I am also always happy for folks to make up their own colorways to suit them and their pets. These brooches are completely sewn by hand and the directions for finishing are included.

I also would like to give a shout out to Lori Brechlin of Notforgotten Farm. I first discovered her wonderful embroidery designs on Instagram and purchased one on Etsy to try. I enjoyed it so much I started doing my own designs with the split stitch method. I’ve mentioned before that I have been having issues with arthritis over the years which can be exacerbated by hand quilting and other hand stitching. As it turns out though, cross stitching and embroidery don’t cause me any problems. Since I first started stitching as a girl by doing cross stitch, crewel embroidery, and needlepoint, it feels like I’ve gone full circle with this type of stitching.

I have been trying for weeks get these patterns out in the world and just this week managed to get this first one up on Etsy, in both digital (PDF) form and a mailed paper version. More are in the works and will hopefully be done soon.

I had already been thinking about replacing my embroidered ornament kits with patterns only and this seems like the perfect way to go. The kits that are in the shop now will be the last ones in that format (with pre-printed panels). In the future I will re-do these cat, dog and trailer patterns in the split stitch style, with PDF and paper patterns. If you’ve been considering buying a kit, now’s the time to do it!

The last few photos show some new items in the shop including two brooches that didn’t make the cut for the pattern, three finished ornaments from the Cat Patches Kit, and some new folk art postcards.

Lastly, I am getting ready for a couple of holiday shows this year. I’ll be doing Christmas Goose on November 22 and 23 at St. Charles Hospital in Bend. I will also be back at the Holiday Tails Art Fair on December 7 at the Bend Athletic Club. Save the dates if you’ll be town!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello Friends! I hope my US readers had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday. Ours was a small family affair with my sister and her husband and our parents. Three dogs livened things up and we had a long time to relax and chat. We saw only a few snowflakes, but lots more rain. I was born on Thanksgiving, so we always celebrate my birthday on the holiday even when my actual birthday is next Monday. Birthday pie is a tradition!

I have been busy with house and family this week, but have been squeezing in a bit of time to update my shops since the Christmas Goose Fair last weekend. I still have a few more of the hand stamped cards to add, but mostly the shops are as full as they will get for the holidays, unless I get a wild hair to finish items already in progress or start something new.

Lucky for you, the Etsy Cyber Week Sale is on now until Monday, November 26th. Purchase at least $50 and get 20% off. This includes everything in both shops including drawstring bags, zipper bags, handmade books, original art, ornament kits, Christmas ornaments, Christmas cards, everyday note cards and stickers, and hand stamped Moleskine journals. Unfortunately, with the way Etsy works you can’t combine items from the two shops to make up the $50, but hopefully you can find goodies in either shop to get there. No coupon needed!

Christmas Goose Holiday Fair November 16-17

Hand stamped, one-of-a-kind note cards

Dear Central Oregon Friends,

My one and only holiday art fair this year is the Christmas Goose Holiday Fair this Friday (9-6) and Saturday (9-4) at St. Charles Hospital, Bend. As most of you know this fair is a fundraiser for Wendy’s Wish which provides non-medical support to cancer patients in the area. As a two time cancer survivor, it’s very close to my heart. I am unable to do the Holiday Tails Art Fair this year, but hope to be back there in 2019.

I have been getting together a wonderful collection of items: handmade and printed note cards, original watercolor and acrylic paintings, hand painted and stitched ornaments, my embroidered ornaments kits for you to DIY, and lots more. I’ll also have some of my linen drawstring pouches and zipper bags, a Christmas stocking and a Christmas quilt.

The newest items are the hand stamped note cards (both Christmas and everyday) that are made from my hand carved stamps. Each one is a little different. I’ll also have lots of printed Christmas cards and everyday note cards, stickers, note card sets and much more.

I hope to see you there! If you can’t be there I am planning to keep the Etsy shops open and see how that goes. If things get crazy I may shut the shops down for Friday and Saturday, but they will reopen as soon as possible. If you want to be sure to get something before it sells out, both shops are open currently. Thanks so much!
