A Spooky Halloween Quilt

Three years ago I attended a wonderful Folk Art Retreat with Gwen Marston and Sue Spargo.  Gwen taught us about applique and Sue taught us her fancy stitches.  Trees were the main theme for Gwen and Sue's samples and many of us chose to use a tree for our starting point.

Of course, it was loads of fun and I'm so glad I went.  I am often inspired by the season, especially when it comes to the fall and winter holidays.  I decided to do a Halloween themed piece.  It all started with this spooky tree.

My workspace was filled with lots of goodies.  I ended up using only a few small bits from the cotton fabrics, but I did get some fun fussy cut parts from them.

Over the past few years I've gotten this project out every Halloween and done some work on it.  This year I decided to finish it once and for all.  The appliques are all stitched down and now  I just have to do some stitching to bring out the details.

I won't get this quilted before Halloween, but it still feels so good to have it this far done!
