2017 Only One Earth

2017 Only One Earth

On this Earth Day it bears repeating. We have only one earth and the fact that some people don’t cherish that remarkable fact drives me crazy.

This quilt is completely hand embroidered and hand quilted. The words are my own. I have entered it into four shows and it’s made it into just one. I hope it will be shown locally in the future, because I’d like to spread the word. But, truthfully, if it never makes it into another show I will always treasure this one that came straight from the heart.

There is only one Earth~ this beautiful big blue marble.
Teach the children that science matters and climate change is real.
This land is our land. Clean air and clean water are the birthright of all generations.
We must maintain biodiversity, cherish our natural wonders, and live gently upon the Earth.
Speak for the trees.
Protect our pollinators.
Celebrate wildlife.
Protect the oceans.
Respect nature.
Love your planet.
There is only one Earth.
There is only one Earth.
There is only one Earth.
There is only one Earth.

Woman Made Gallery Quilt + Resist

I just recently found about a new venue for showing resist quilts and I thought I'd pass along the word.  The Woman Made Gallery in Chicago, IL has put out a new call for entry for an exhibit called Quilt + Resist: art. politics, storytelling.  Woman Made Gallery is a non profit art gallery which has shown over 8,000 women artists in the course of their 26 year history (herstory!).

My three resist quilts have been back home for a few weeks so I was thrilled to have another place to submit them.  I have just completed my entry and if you have any work that fits the theme I hope you'll enter too.  Please pass on the word to any quilters you know who have done resist work.  The entry deadline is August 31, 2018.

Finally, these three quilts will be exhibited out in the world!  I entered the Quilt Surface Design Symposium "See My Voice" museum exhibit on a whim.  My notification email was lost in the shuffle, but today I found it buried in my spam folder and was delighted to see that all three pieces were accepted.

Ross Art Museum, 60 Sandusky St., Delaware, OH 43015
Exhibition Dates:  May 18th – June 29th 2018
Museum hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Sunday 1-5pm and Thursday 1-7pm

If you are in the area, or attending the symposium I hope you'll get a chance to check out the exhibit. I wish I could see it in person!  You can read more about these pieces in this blog post.
