I've always found the history of political quilts to be quite interesting, but I never thought I'd make one myself. I have thought about it a few times over the past year though. Last night I just had to do something. This idea has been percolating for a while. I plan to make more words like HOPE, CHANGE, YES WE CAN and the date. That panel you see there is one I picked up on a whim last summer. What I like about it is that the words of Thomas Jefferson are linked with the words of Martin Luther King Jr (in the red stripes- click to see bigger). How appropriate is that?
If you do a search of political quilts or Obama quilts you'll get lots of information including this Obama craft blog, an exhibition of quilts for the inauguration going on right now in Washington, DC and even this Denyse Schmidt quilt that I first saw sometime last year.
I feel so lucky to be able to witness this historical day!
