My Undercover Quilters Book Club has a monthly theme for what we call 12 x 12's, though they may be any size really. I have been trying to catch up on these and November's theme was Books I Love. I had recently taken this photo of the four books we've made into quilts and transferred it to fabric with Transfer Artist Paper.
One of the reasons for doing these 12 x 12's is to try new things and challenge ourselves. This is the second time I've used the Transfer Artist Paper and I was hoping to do a better job at it than the first time. I had trouble lifting the paper though and got a pretty rough transfer. I went ahead and finished the project though. I machine quilted the words "Books We Love" and "The Undercover Quilters".
The four books we've created quilts from so far are:
- The Good Good Pig by Sy Montgomery
- On the Divinity of Second Chances by Kaya McLaren
- Love to Water My Soul by Jane Kirkpatrick
- The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh
I am working on that last one right now. The book is set in San Francisco, so I've just created my version of the Golden Gate Bridge. I'm listening to the story as I work which is just great. I am getting more ideas for this piece as time goes on. More on that later!
