One way to make it easy to finish an item is to have it already half done when you decide you need it. This table runner actually started out with the idea to make it into a bag. Last year I used scraps to sew right onto a piece of batting, intending to finish it as a bag. Yesterday, in examining the dark recesses of my quilt cupboard I found this piece and decided it needed to be finished up asap, but I didn't really need another bag. I did need another table runner and this seemed a fine way to get one.
I didn't want to deal with binding so I sewed it like a pillowcase to a piece of backing fabric, turned it and top stitched the edges. Then I went over it with my free motion foot with little curliques.
Voila! A new table runner and it's pretty, if a little wavy on the edges. In the grand scheme of things I've decided that doesn't matter and it's on the table as we speak. Yay for another finish!
