Las Ventanas got home a few days ago with a beautiful ribbon and a glass vase etched with all the pertinent information. I didn't go through the paperwork until today and I discovered the judges' comments. Just thought I'd make a note of them here as compared to the comments from 2015 QuiltCon.
2015 QuiltCon:
- fabrics are very interesting
- good use of color
- good exploration of a theme
- quilting design is effective
- thread color is distracting
2016 AQS QuiltWeek Paducah:
- best features: color of negative space and use of variegated thread, vertical stitching
- areas to improve: none
You'll notice the two phrases I highlighted contradict each other. This is a great example of how judges' comments are objective. If you have entered a show and got a discouraging comment, don't take it to heart, especially if you don't agree with their assessment. Enter the quilt in another show and see what they say. If you haven't entered a show yet, what are you waiting for!
