This week I've taken up a whole lot of knitting projects. I've gone through the bins that had old projects and decided which ones I want to finish, which to let go. I've been working on several of the ones that I decided to finish and I'll have more about those projects in the future. Today I want to talk about the Pussyhat Project.
The mission of the Pussyhat Project is to make as many pink, kitty-eared hats as possible to either send to Washington for the Women's March on Washington on January 21 or to wear in your own home town for a march. I discovered just two pink yarns in my stash and have already knit them up. Pussyhat #1 is knit with a pretty purple-pink yarn I picked up in Maine on my trip there in 2015. Pussyhat #2 was made with some Frog Tree Alpaca sportweight that I've had in the stash for years. I had to double it to make it work, but it's super soft. This morning I was about to head out to do some errands including going to purchase more pink yarn, I remembered this old handknit sweater. I had been wanting to repurpose it anyway and it's a perfect source of pink yarn. I am washing the yarn now and will be knitting more hats this weekend.

Pre-washing
Easy Pussyhat Pattern:
Using a yarn appropriate for a size 7 circular needle, cast on 80 sts with a long tailed cast on. Link into a round and K2P2 for 3 inches. Switch to K every st for 5.5 inches. The total height will be 8.5 inches. Turn the hat inside out and use a three needle bind off to close the top. Weave in the ends, turn the hat right side out and you are done. I have found that the ears look better after blocking so set aside time for that.
